Cedars-Sinai is an academic medical center with a world-renowned faculty and extensive, highly competitive training programs in more than 50 specialty and subspecialty areas. Medical education has been a core mission of the Medical Center since its inception. Our commitment is to provide graduate medical education programs that enable physicians in training to develop personal, clinical and professional competence under the guidance and supervision of the faculty and staff.

One of the largest community medical centers in the United States, and a major teaching hospital for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

The standards of excellence which have made Cedars-Sinai known around the world for its expertise and excellence in patient care and advancement of medical research, have also made Cedars-Sinai a center for the education and training of the physicians of tomorrow. As one of the largest medical centers in the United States, Cedars-Sinai offers residents and fellows exposure to a wide range of procedures and populations. In addition, Cedars-Sinai's facilities are among the most advanced in the world with state-of-the-art equipment and the application of new technologies.

The Department of Anesthesiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center encompasses all anesthesiology specialties; obstetric anesthesia, cardiothoracic anesthesia, neurosurgical anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, multi-organ transplant anesthesia, trauma anesthesia, ambulatory anesthesia, pain management and anesthesia research.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is one of the busiest surgical hospitals in the Los Angeles area. The volume, variety and scope of the program is such that all components of Anesthesiology and its subspecialties are taught. Our program guarantees a large volume of teaching cases for residents consistent with the fact that postgraduate medical education is an important component of the Cedars-Sinai mission.

Eight categorical positions at the first year clinical level are offered.

The residency consists of three or four years of clinical and didactic teaching. Clinical Base Year includes rotations in the following disciplines: Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, and Emergency Medicine. The four year clinical anesthesia training program follows the guidelines of the American Board of Anesthesiology.

The goal of the residency program will be accomplished by the completion of the program's multi-year curriculum. This four-year curriculum is designed as a continuum of education in Anesthesiology fulfilling all criteria to allow our residents to enter the ABA examination system. The continuum consists of a Clinical Base Year (CBY) and 36 months of ABA approved training in anesthesia (CA-1, CA-2, and CA-3 years). Learning objectives for each anesthesiology specialty and sub-specialty curriculum are included for each 6 month interval.

Mock oral examinations, written board preparation, workshops, and simulator training are performed during the 36 months of the educational program.

A mentoring program is available to guide residents and to provide continual support from the faculty members.
