The Architects’ Journal has written a fantastic and in-depth new building study on Maggie’s Leeds.?
In addition to speaking with Heatherwick Studio Technical Design Lead, Nick Ling, the study examines the centre’s design and construction from the views of the architect, engineer, and client.
Maggie’s Leeds is located within the campus of St. James’s University Hospital providing free practical and emotional support for people living with cancer. Built on a sloped site, the 462sqm centre is designed as a group of three large-scale planters, each enclosing a counselling room in their core. The overlapping roofs support an extensive garden which steps down to shelter communal areas. Internally, the space between each planter becomes the natural heart of the centre, with views into each area, making it simple for visitors to find their way around and connecting every room with the garden.
